For Real-Time PCR Detection of FactorII (G20210A) mutation
Prothrombin or factor II is the precursor for thrombin in the coagulation cascade. G20210A mutation in prothrombin gene is the second most prevalent genetic risk factor for venous thromboembolism (VTE) after Factor V Leiden. This mutation increases the risk of venous thrombosis about 2 to 7 times. It has also been linked to increased risk of pregnancy loss. Prevalence of this mutation ranges between 0.5 to 5% depending on the race and ethnic background.

The F2 Mix contains all necessary reagents for Real-Time PCR and is ready to use; no further reagent or mixing is required. Reactions are prepared simply by addition of the mix directly to the tubes followed by the sample DNA. Results can be viewed in Scatter Graph by Allelic Discrimination Analysis.
Either of sample alleles may function for internal control as any sample should be positive for one or both of mutant and wild type allels. Therefore, the main reaction ensures quality of patient sample and DNA extraction and also prevents false negative results by PCR inhibition or setup errors.
